Baking soda is an amazing, all-natural product that can be used to remove dirt, grease, and just about anything else from around your kitchen sink. To create a cleaning product that will make your sink sparkle and shine, all you have to do is mix a little bit of baking soda with water. Put the mixture on a sponge and clean away.

This cleaning tip also works great for cleaning kitchen counters and stovetops.

Clean the Often Forgotten Microwave

Stop spending time scraping and scrubbing the walls of your microwave in an effort to remove built-up food and unidentifiable gunk. Quickly clean your microwave with this all-natural microwave cleaner.

To create the all-natural microwave cleaner do the following:

  • Put a ½ cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl
  • Slice up a lemon and put it in the bowl with the water
  • Microwave for 3 minutes then let the water sit for 5 minutes

Winter is a time to cordon yourself off from the rest of the world, but spring is the time to come out and play. And what better way to enjoy that beautiful breeze than with a fresh glass or mug of the following springtime teas?


There’s a bit of an art to teas that an average drinker may not understand. Pu-erh is from China that has a tendency to taste better when it’s had a little time to develop its personality. Leaves that are only a few years old are on the bittersweet side, while those that are 10 to 20 years old have a tendency to taste like an earthy pick-me-up. Ideally, you should be drinking pu-erh that is 100 years old, but that could be difficult to find. Regardless, this tea is enjoyable to drink.


The flowers of jasmine combine to make this very floral brew that’s perfect for those gorgeous spring nights ahead of you. Jasmine is known to soothe the drinker of their anxieties, and it can also potentially reduce the severity of common bodily disorders such as headaches or skin inflammation. Jasmine is usually a type of green tea that is enhanced with the precious flower and traditionally made in Asia. Light and bright in flavor, you’re encouraged to drink this right before a big meeting at work.

Turmeric Tea

Turmeric is known for its healing properties which can make this tea a health drink as well as a treat. It’s a little spicy, a little sweet, and full of deliciousness. The plant has been hailed for its antioxidant properties, which can help to slow down the aging process and increase the body’s immune system. Try it out on a warm day with some honey and lemon to put a fresh spring in your step.

You might have been trying to grow “outside” plants “inside” or didn’t realize the plants you chose required copious amounts of sunlight. To make living in our Raleigh apartments feel more like you are living in a lush, green forest, here are some plants anybody can grow in their bedroom with just a little bit of TLC.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a succulent plant bearing fleshy, thick, greenish-gray leaves that contain sticky fluid you can use to treat various skin problems. Deemed the “plant of immortality” by ancient Egyptians 6000 years ago, the aloe vera plant–specifically its leaf gel–has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries, especially for moisturizing, soothing and healing frostbite, sunburns, insect bites, cold sores and rashes. Pots in which you plant aloe vera should have bottom holes for drainage to prevent overwatering. Aloe vera likes shade, partial sun and full sun.


Many people have discovered the beauty of the easy-to-grow dieffenbachia, an indoor plant offering lush, green and white foliage. Mature dieffenbachia plants can transform typical bedrooms into tropical escapes. Just give your dieffenbachia access to low to medium sunlight, keep soil evenly moist and watch it grow into a gorgeous plant.

Heart-Leaf Philodendrons

A hardy foliage plant with attractive heart-shaped leaves, philodendrons are “trailing” plants that grow long stems with leaves you can trail over bookshelves or windowsills. To grow philodendrons, provide shade to bright light and let the soil dry before you water it again. You can also lace philodendron stems through a small trellis in your bedroom to give the room a true “outdoor” appearance.

Cast-Iron Plant

It’s called the cast-iron plant because it’s a tough, indoor plant that can withstand low light, various temperatures and even low humidity. In fall and winter, you barely need to water it because it lies dormant at this time but keep soil evenly moist during spring and summer. If you like plants but don’t want to mess with them more than a minute or two each day, this is YOUR kind of plant!

Try determining your sleep needs within a 7- to 9-hour range to start.
